Feed Readers Watch

Google Testing Online RSS Reader
October 7th, 2005

Google took the covers off a Web based RSS reader at the Web 2.0 conference in San Francisco today. The tool, appropriately dubbed Google Reader, serves as an aggregator for Web feeds and is designed much like the company’s Gmail service with labels, starred favorites and keyboard shortcuts. Google Reader is a browser-based application that works with virtually all popular browsers on Windows, Mac and Linux platforms.

“We often get asked how anyone’s supposed to keep up with the firehose of stuff launched from the web’s spigot, so we’re offering Reader as a way to help,” explained Google software engineer Chris Wetherell. “Like the Personalized Homepage, it’s a part of Google’s ongoing effort to bring together personalized web content to make information more relevant to users.”

Findory RSS reader
September 23rd, 2005

“Findory just finished adding a Bloglines-like feed reader to our personalized news site. It is available on our My Favorites page.

Like most RSS readers, you can import any RSS feed and any OPML list of feeds. You also can easily import your entire list of Bloglines subscriptions by entering your public username or your private username and password.

Like some other RSS readers, we show which feeds have new articles, the new articles in each feed, and which articles you have clicked on.

Unlike many other RSS readers, we’re fast, very fast.”

Socialmarks
September 14th, 2005

The goal of Socialmarks is to streamline the discovery, organization, and sharing of information.

The popularity of folksonomy-driven services, along with the general acceptance of their use, has grown tremendously within the recent months. The most popular of these services focus particularly on the ’social bookmarking’ aspect of the social networking concept. Socialmarks furthers this concept by, in addition, providing RSS and Atom feed aggregation tools (we’re currently tracking over a quarter of a million feeds)! With these features, Socialmarks also gives users the ability to tag specific feeds, a feed’s post, as well as allowing the user to add the post to their list of social bookmarks (which can also be tagged).
